Oceania

Australia

Australia's three carriers — Telstra, Optus and Vodafone — have very different coverage maps. Telstra dominates the outback and regional areas by a huge margin. For city-only trips, anything works; for road trips and national parks, the partner carrier matters a lot.

Europe

Europe

Europe is the easiest region for eSIMs — regional "Eurolink"-style plans give you seamless roaming across 30+ countries with no carrier switching hassle. The right pick depends on how long you'll stay and whether you tether.

Asia

Indonesia & Bali

Indonesia has surprisingly strong eSIM coverage thanks to Telkomsel's dominance. Bali specifically is well-served — coverage in Ubud, Canggu and along the beaches is reliable. Outer islands and Komodo/Flores get patchier.

Asia

Japan

Japan has excellent eSIM coverage. Nearly all major providers resell either Softbank or NTT Docomo capacity, so real-world speeds are uniformly good — the decision comes down to price and unlimited vs capped data.

Americas

Mexico

Mexico has solid eSIM coverage on Telcel — the dominant carrier — and most travel providers resell it. The catch is coverage in remote areas (parts of Oaxaca, jungle cenotes, mountain villages) where Telcel is the only viable network.

Oceania

New Zealand

New Zealand's three carriers — Spark, One NZ (formerly Vodafone NZ) and 2degrees — have very different rural footprints. Coverage in cities and along main highways is excellent; remote South Island and parts of the West Coast are a different story. For road trips, partner network matters.

Europe

Portugal

Portugal is one of the easiest destinations for eSIMs in Europe. MEO, Vodafone Portugal and NOS all have strong 4G/5G coverage, and the country is included in any "Eurolink"-style regional plan. For digital nomads in Lisbon, Porto or Madeira, this is set-and-forget territory.

Asia

South Korea

South Korea has the world's most aggressive 5G rollout — and the fastest speed-test results of any country we've reviewed. Any reputable eSIM works in Seoul; the decision is about price, hotspot support, and whether you need T-Money for the subway.

Europe

Spain

Spain has excellent eSIM coverage on Movistar, Vodafone and Orange. Cities, beaches and the AVE train network are all uniformly strong. Spain is included in every "Eurolink"-style regional plan, so for most travellers this is the easiest European destination to set up.

Asia

Thailand

Thailand is one of the easiest destinations for eSIMs — AIS, TrueMove and dtac all have strong nationwide coverage and most travel-eSIM providers resell at least one of them. Pick on price and unlimited-vs-capped, not on coverage.

Europe

Turkey

Turkey has strong 4G/5G coverage on Turkcell, Vodafone Turkey and Türk Telekom. Travel eSIMs work cleanly, but the country isn't in the EU roam-like-at-home zone — verify any "Europe" plan explicitly includes Turkey before buying.

Europe

United Kingdom

The UK has excellent eSIM coverage across all major providers. Post-Brexit the catch is that a "Europe" regional plan may or may not include the UK — always verify before buying. Within the UK, EE has the best overall coverage and 5G footprint.

Americas

United States

US coverage is a story of three carriers — Verizon, AT&T, T-Mobile — and the eSIM you buy is really a choice of which one your provider resells. Coverage outside urban corridors varies sharply, so the partner network matters more here than almost anywhere else.

Asia

Vietnam

Vietnam has cheap, fast 4G in every major city and reasonable rural coverage. Viettel and Vinaphone dominate; whichever your eSIM resells, expect strong performance in Hanoi, Ho Chi Minh City, Da Nang and along the coast.
