South Korea eSIM picks
South Korea has the world's most aggressive 5G rollout — and the fastest speed-test results of any country we've reviewed. Any reputable eSIM works in Seoul; the decision is about price, hotspot support, and whether you need T-Money for the subway.
At a glance
- Best for unlimited 5G streaming: Holafly Korea — Korea is one of Holafly’s standout markets, KT or SK Telecom backing gives near-fibre speeds
- Best general pick: Airalo Korea (broad catalog, polished install)
- For top 5G performance with built-in security: Saily — Nord’s threat protection layered on KT/SK Telecom 5G
- Most Korea-native: Ubigi — Transatel (NTT subsidiary) has long-standing partner relationships across East Asia
Network notes
KT and SK Telecom both have nationwide 5G that reliably hits 500+ Mbps in Seoul. LG U+ is close behind. Whichever partner your eSIM resells, performance in cities and on the KTX bullet train is genuinely outstanding.
Coverage softens in the mountainous interior (Seoraksan, parts of Jeju highlands) but rural towns are still well-served.
Practical connectivity tips
- Install before landing. Incheon airport Wi-Fi is solid but you’ll want data the moment you exit immigration for Kakao T (rideshare).
- Apps you’ll want online: Kakao T (rides), Kakao Map and Naver Map (Google Maps is partially crippled in Korea), KakaoTalk (default messaging), Subway Korea (live transit), Papago (translation).
- T-Money / Cashbee transit cards are still physical-card best. The Korean mobile T-Money flow requires a Korean phone number, which travel eSIMs don’t provide.
- Restaurant booking is overwhelmingly via Naver Map’s reservation feature — having data while walking is essential.
Watch out for
- Google Maps walking and driving directions don’t fully work in Korea. Use Naver Map or Kakao Map. Download regional Naver Map data before you go for areas with weaker signal.
- 5G on the bar doesn’t always mean fast — partner network handover varies. Run a quick speed test on arrival.
- DMZ tours travel close to the border; some plans see degraded connectivity in those areas.
